Hi, I’m Chris Cole, and I’m delighted to share a bit about my journey and how it led to the creation of Unlock Innovation Ltd.
My background:
I began my career as an accountant (I know, right?) but when our family travelled overseas (four boys!), I took on the role of homeschooling them. I really enjoyed this. It was during this time that I fell in love with understanding how people learn differently and how valuable this diversity is. I also discovered that some of my boys were dyslexic, which marked the beginning of my journey into the field of dyslexia and other learning differences. After setting up a support network for parents and educators, I had the privilege of connecting with and working alongside teams and individuals, each with unique strengths and potential.
Seven years after this “pivot” I found out I was dyslexic. This revelation was life changing as it shifted my whole perspective on my life and suddenly life made so much more sense!
Through these experiences, I realised how many dyslexics, regardless of their roles or ages, often experience a sense of disconnect – feeling like they don’t quite fit in or can’t fully be their authentic dyslexic selves. Whether due to self-doubt, a lack of understanding, or not having the right tools, too often their dyslexic potential goes unnoticed and underutilised.
Creating Unlock Innovation:
Driven by this realisation, when Dorenda connected with me to work in dyslexia research and workshops for tech organisations it was an easy next step to join forces. From this work, we founded Unlock Innovation Limited. Our mission is to support individuals and organisations to realise the value and innovation of dyslexic thinking and how to unlock it to benefit themselves and their organisations.
I believe that innovation is not just about superpowers, startups or groundbreaking ideas – it’s about understanding, accepting and unlocking dyslexic thinking in the workplace (and life!) and truly harnessing the advantages it brings. Whether you’re an individual looking to better understand your dyslexia or an organisation ready to unlock a whole new skill set, Unlock Innovation is here to support that journey.
Let’s connect!
We are eager to connect with organisations and individuals who share this insight for growth and innovation. Whether you’re interested in collaborating, learning more about what we do, or simply discussing your own journey, we’d love to hear from you.
