The tiny corners of the world not dominated by tech, will have missed TechWeek, which ran nationally last week. What a fantastic line up, so much so that I found myself conflicted between what was on offer in Christchurch and being in Auckland for the HiTech awards.
Whilst in Auckland I was able to record a chat with the wonderful Jack Downs. Jack has established his value with the tech awards team and came over from Sydney to assist with this year’s huge event. He and I have been talking for a while about how he manages and takes advantage of his dyslexic thinking style. I look forward very much to posting our interview.
The event itself and the lead up programmes are enormous, it’s been an honour to witness its growth. It is a thing that as you get older, the slice of people that you know enough to have easy conversations with gets smaller. Meaningful conversation itself is not easy to manage with 1320 people in the room! It takes effort and passion as an ‘oldie’ to keep in touch with the new tech generation and we must do this by creating demonstrable value.
Unlock Innovation, the startup I am involved in, as being developed as one such vehicle. Given the growing number of neurodiverse minds in the world, we believe New Zealand’s future growth will be enhanced by understanding the value of different thinking. We must equally value both left and right brained skill sets. See NBR Monday the 27/04/2024 for my interview.: https://www.nbr.co.nz/entrepreneurs/dorenda-britten-is-forging-a-link-between-innovation-and-dyslexia/
I am not a talented technology user, but intuited right back in the 90’s that we could have technology that damned us to oblivion or technology that helped humans advance our synergy with the world we live in. That mind shift is happening but could be faster. Acceleration will happen when we understand how to put truly diverse teams together.
I have been honoured to witness an emerging understanding of humanity and environment in the tech sector – a move away from the weight of things to the promised weightless economy. So saying, everything has consequences, a weightless economy is power hungry and generating power itself is not without consequences. What is really interesting is that the technology sector has become more broadly defined to include the development of solutions, that might have been understood of manipulation of materials only, in the past.
