It is a funny thing isn’t it, when you realise the tide is turning. At Unlock Innovation, we have been talking about the hidden power of dyslexia for several years now and trying hard to believe it is making a difference. Suddenly, everyone is talking about it; universities have even become interested in it- who would’ve thought!

My late brother was excluded from university because of his dyslexia and now his name is in pride of place on a university’s engineering building.

I have lived all my life in blissful ignorance that I was dyslexic. My university studies were curtailed because of my thinking style and need to ask questions. Lots of them.

I have been thinking about this recently and concluded that because I couldn’t do everything to the standard I expected of myself, I had to be a failure.

What I have discovered the last few years is that my greatest skill is delegation. I hold the big picture and I enroll the skills of other to help bring that about.

Why did I spend so much of my life in deficit mode? These are my thoughts for the week, I’m taking a 10-day break and feeling grateful for these insights.
